Norman Alden (born Norman Adelberg; September 13, 1924 - July 27, 2012) appeared twice on the NBC-TV series The A-Team, first as Police Inspector Ed Maloney in the Season 1 episode "A Small and Deadly War", then as Mickey Stern in the episode "Steel" later on in that season.
Career[]
A talented and gifted veteran character actor, Norman performed in television programs and motion pictures since first appearing on The 20th Century Fox Hour in 1957.
Norman was signed to a development deal by NBC in 1954, where he got a role in its series Matinee Theater.[1] As a character actor, he frequently played mostly tough guys and authority figures, often in sports team coach or police detective type roles. In Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, he had a memorable appearance as a coach who drowned after collapsing face-down into a bowl of chicken soup, and he coached Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson in the film Semi-Tough.
Alden was also the voice of Aquaman, on Super Friends & The All New Super Friends Hour. He reprised this role brief for a commercial crossing over Super Friends and The Powerpuff Girl. The commercial included Blossom being voice by Cathy Cavadini. [2]
In 1986, Alden voiced Kranix on The Transformers: The Movie, which also had Hal Rayle voicing Shrapnel and Neil Ross voicing Bonecrusher, Hook, Springer and Slag. Yhat same year, he appeared in the role of Lou Caruthers in Back to the Future, which co-starred Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, and Christopher Lloyd.
Norman also appeared in numerous Disney films, with roles including Sir Kay in The Sword in the Stone and Norman in the Disney Sunday Movie episode "Sunday Drive".
Death[]
Alden died at the age of 87 on July 27, 2012 from natural causes in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his two children from his first marriage, one grandson, and his partner of 25 years, Linda Thieben.[3][4][5]
